About

My name is Jen and I am a certified Nutritionist based out of Kitchener, Ontario in Canada. I completed my education at the University of Guelph with a double major in Nutrition and Neutraceutical Sciences and Zoology. I work as a both a nutritionist and nutrition writer for a number of avenues. I have been a vegetarian for as long as I can remember and a vegan for the past year. I am particularly interested in topics related to plant-based diets as well as implications of westernized diets.

Aside from nutrition I am an avid rock climber and fitness enthusiast. I have just completed a 7 month post-graduation, climbing trip around North America. I am currently back in the city and training indoors for the winter time.

So with that back ground info, my website is a resource for all things nutrition related. Using current research, I break it down to make it reader friendly for more people than just scientists. I am a firm believer in the power of education and the need to make scientific research more accessible to everyone. Interested in some one on one time? I also give nutrition consults! Check out my nutrition consult page for more information.

Cheers!

Jen

  19. Hi Jen. Thanks for checking out my blog. I look forward to reading more from you! I think we have a few things in common, from nutrition to fitness, although unfortunately rock climbing and I did not exactly take to each other! I was a vegetarian for a year, but after discovering I was anemic, I re-introduced fish to my diet, and I’ve been a pescetarian for about 7 years!

Paleo diet is something we’ve recently discovered ourselves and it might be our next step in Veganism (:
but so far.. as long as it’s vegan we definitely have some interests to share!
    Happy Blogging (:

hi..! whats a grain-free diet like? i’m really curious.. please forgive my ignorance but i was of the opinion that a vegan diet essentially “included” grains.. is it so?

  24. Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. I was interested to see flax on your list of superfoods. I’m trying my best to incorporate flaxseeds where I can! Great nutritional info on your blog. I’ll be checking it out regularly.

    Hi Jen,
I’m so happy that you stopped by my blog because it led me to yours! I love that you post scientific facts on nutrition, and from a vegan perspective as well! I’m hoping to study nutrition for my masters (unfortunately didn’t realize this passion until the final year of my undergrad) and I can’t wait to read more of your posts.

    All the best 🙂
    Carrie

  31. Jenn, I have always marvelled at your ‘wall climbing’ Your pics are amazing. I don’t know if your pics in the posts are weekly or from some great climbs in the past or what. But I always have to hold my breath when I see them……cause I am afraid to look down!
